Colin HeavinghamColin Heavingham is now the artist in residence at the Old Boy’s Club at Dalston, UK.

Steve Savage, of the Old Boys Club, has purchased eight paintings of Colin Heavingham’s work and has hung them as a permanent exhibition. When other exhibitions take place the pictures can be privately viewed by emailing Steve.

The title of the exhibition is “Chaos and Nonconformity” and it deals with the “other” side of life, the people and situations that arise from disorganization or radical thoughts.

The “Nude Shopper” is an example, then the “I Love My Dog” painting is a cool look at sex on the net involving beasts. The “Bad Businessman” painting is a cartoon of the violent bully who wheels and deals and “The Puppet” is a picture of one puppet working another of another race.

The list of titles is available on request again by emailing Steve Savage.

ShopWhat do you do when Heineken asks you to design their first shop? Do you place furniture and displays into a given space?

The designers at Tjep. thought it would be rather more appropriate to pour furniture into the six monumental buildings located in the heart of Amsterdam, as if they were filling a cold fresh glass of X-tra cold Heineken. This concept translates into displays that evolve seamlessly from the floors to the walls and ceilings in abstract dynamic wave movements. The idea of coldness is consequently applied through the whole shop design including the lighting which is 100% LED based (the first in Europe).

You will also find a three story high fridge (possibly another record) containing all the Heineken bottles from different markets around the world. Alongside the fridge an ice crystal evolves along the wall containing over 600 Heineken bottles. When you enter the shop you feel a cool breeze coming from the logo written in real ice on a metal wall (yet another a novelty).

stairsThe central space features a monumental glass staircase, the material choice throughout the shop constantly supporting a sense of coolness. The floors are made of a new product developed by Senso, which features an abstract graphic representation of ice cracks and a large watermark, and the cash desks are sculptural crystal shapes.

Well worth a visit on your next weekend away!

pendolinoVirgin Trains has commemorated Tate Liverpool’s twentieth anniversary by naming a Virgin Pendolino train after it, in what is a rare accolade for a museum or gallery. The dedicated train was unveiled at Liverpool Lime Street station.

Tate Liverpool is the home of the National Collection of Modern Art in the North of England and is the most popular gallery of modern and contemporary art in the UK, outside London.

liverpool cultureTate Liverpool exhibits art from the Tate Collection alongside changing special exhibitions. These major exhibitions, such as Salvador Dali: A Mythology (1998), Shopping: A Century of Art and Consumer Culture (2002-03) and Summer of Love: Art of the Psychedelic Era (2005) have brought an important national and international focus to the city. To mark Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture Tate Liverpool presented an ambitious programme including the Turner Prize 2007, the first time the prize has been presented outside London since it began in 1984, and Gustav Klimt: Painting, Design and Modern Life in Vienna 1900 which attracted over 199,000 visitors in just 14 weeks. Both events attracted global media attention and research has shown that the Turner Prize 2007 contributed more than £10 million to the region’s economy. Tate Liverpool is also the proud winner of the Lever Prize 2008, an award for world-class cultural organisations, as chosen by North West business leaders.

buffaloMichael Huggan, the gold medallist and Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (APRS) has announced that his African Wildlife Calendar 2009 is now available.

We have taken a sneak preview and can confirm that the images are simply stunning!

The calendar comprises 13 breathtaking shots - one for each month of the year plus the cover photo.

“The images chosen for my 2009 calendar are from a trip to Kenya, early in 2008. This was a turbulent time for Kenya as political unrest and riots resulted in a huge impact on visitor numbers to the country. However, determined as ever to go, my wife and I travelled to the Masai Mara, staying once again at Governors main camp.

“This was the first time I had ever experienced the Masai Mara with green grass, not brown! This was a result of the tremendous rain and thunderstorms that frequently deluged the plains, and our tent!” recounts Michael.

hippo“Fortunately for us, the heavy rains came at night. However, during the day the build up of storm clouds dispersed with sunshine bathing the plains and animals in a truly spectacular light. January’s image of the hippo and November’s image of the tree and elephants show the quality of the outstanding light.”

Michael Huggan’s 2009 African Wildlife Calendar – the ideal Christmas gift - is exclusively available here. It measures 42 x 29 cm (A3), is priced at £10 plus postage & packing (only £3 for delivery to UK addresses) and includes stunning shots of lions, cheetahs, African buffalo, hippopotamus, giraffe, elephants, leopards and impala.

“Africa has a special place in my heart and I hope some of the passion I share for this magnificent country is conveyed through the images in my 2009 calendar. Each month tells a story, and I trust you will enjoy the journey throughout the year ahead!”

secure a saleA premier cash home-buying service in London has this week relaunched its website. The online refurbishment comes at the perfect time for many home owners, desperately looking for fast house sales to release home equity as the credit crisis looks set to continue for the next year.

Run by property experts, Tim Jackson and Eli Robinson, SecureASale offers home owners up to 90% of the value of their property in cash and can, in many cases, exchange contracts within a week of the initial home viewing!

As many families are looking at ways to tighten their belts, SecureASale’s cash home-buying service can ensure that those that need to move for any reason (whether it be a new job elsewhere, a divorce or repossession and money worries) can do so quickly and easily thanks to their fast house sales policy.

Because SecureASale always buys directly from the owner, clients do not have to worry about estate agent fees either, so 100% of the sale price goes to the seller. SecureASale even guarantees to pay all solicitors’ costs.

This week, leading estate agent publication, The Negotiator, heralded Jackson and Robinson as, “not a pair to dismiss” and “a bad estate agent’s worst nightmare!”

Through its fast house sales service, SecureASale hopes to reinvigorate the stagnating London property market by offering Londoners fair cash prices for their homes.

An innovative new service has just been launched to help households record important financial information securely in one place, and then use that as part of an interactive budgeting tool - privately and safely - online.

And it’s already receiving attention from several high street banks, as a potential offering to new customers and those making loan applications.

nutsYour Nutshell offers a number of interlinked services, with the facility to store everything important to a person or household including diaries, life histories and living Wills.

The financial offering, Your Money in a Nutshell, takes users through a full range of prompts to be answered to record every conceivable asset, liability, income and expenditure affecting their household.

Contact details and policy numbers remain fire-, flood- and burglar-proof if ever they’re needed in a hurry, and all payment amounts in and out are recorded with dates.

These figures in turn automatically populate the twelve-month budget forecast, which is unlike any other in that it allows completely interactive control. If a repayment rate is due to change on a given date, or the user has a future one-off expense to factor in - such as a family wedding, holiday, or income such as a bonus - these can be included with dates and amounts, and they will then be reflected in the appropriate section on the budget.

There is even the facility while storing details of policies and accounts to set reminders by email in advance of renewal dates, to ensure smooth transition and finding the best prices.

There is interest from banks in offering membership to their customers, partly to help manage the current economic climate and partly to cut internal processing time when considering loan applications. The list is exhaustive and the resulting budget gives a true reflection of a household’s financial position; and could cut an hour-long application review by more than half, while also helping customers focus on their genuine ability to repay.

It’s useful both for more established households with regular income and expenditure and for others just starting out - such as students or those setting up home for the first time. And membership can be given as a gift.

The website is as secure as any bank’s – password-protected at several levels and encrypted, and only members have access to their files.

Of course, Your Money in a Nutshell makes managing finances easier for absolutely anyone who uploads their details; but should something unforeseen happen to them, those left managing their financial affairs would find everything far easier to administer. Members are encouraged to leave instructions about access to their account with a solicitor or executor, or stored with their Will.

There are more light-hearted parts of Your Nutshell which tie in neatly with storing everything important safely online, surviving mishaps to household or computer - recording memories and events during the year, and last wishes including personal messages and hopes for the future, all with pictures, video and documents as extra illustration.

Your money, your year, your life, your wishes – it’s everything important, in a nutshell!
